As a follow-up if anyone runs into a similar situation. Somehow my copy of xtorrent, was not fully functional, although I had purchased a activation code for it. The individual file download feature, wasn't working.

I used AppZapper to uninstall xtorrent. I then re-installed it, and it works fine now. Xtorrent is a great program

There is a way to do this. :)

I've poked around a bit and found what I believe are two techniques. If you're using Xtorrent to search for torrents, you can just pick the torrent you want (represented as a folder), use the little triangle to expand the folder, uncheck the ones you don't want, and click download. Or, since you just want one file, select that file in the list and click its individual download button. Alternatively, if you get a torrent file by some other means, as soon as it's loaded into Xtorrent and before it starts downloading, uncheck the individual files you do not want.

Note that I'm using the paid version of Xtorrent. I assume this functionality is in the free version as well, but I have no way of being certain.

I hope this was helpful. :)

I've been using xtorrent for a month or so. There is NO documentation, and repeated requests to Dave Watanabe have been ignored. Although it is a GREAT program, and most of it is very intuitive. I cannot figure out how to do an individual download from a group of files.

In particular, I want to download one one song, or file, in a folder of 300. Can anyone tell me how to do it. Thanx.....

Fresh from Fark:

The media war machine is starting up so that when Bush invades Myanmar we'll naturally assume we're not the evil empire taking out targets of oppurtunity.

This does not bode well for Myanmar.

That's a very gaurded, political, intellectual response by Kerry's part.

I wonder what he actually thinks of the incident.

Unfortunately in a society where our leadership lives and dies on public opinion, if he actually said anything one way or another regarding this incident, it could've massively damaged his public image.

Still, this scene so beautifully captured by a hundred cheap digital cameras wells up the same feelings I had when I first learned about Kitty Genovese (and I apologize for the necessary hyperbole of associating this event to brutal rape and murder).

"When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty"

When was the last time you walked past a policeman and didn't give him a wide berth?

Ah. The tasering incident. It's definitely unfortunate, but it's more a symptom of a general repression of free speech than anything brand new. It's in the same vein as the idea that protesters have to gather far away from political events (and the news cameras at political events) in designated "free speech zones."

The police who tasered that kid should be disciplined for excessive use of force. Politics really doesn't come into play in my opinion. That said, my (cynical) guess is that the police officers involved will not be seriously disciplined because they used non-lethal force and (presumably) the kid has no lasting injuries. Now if the guy had a pacemaker or something that had been damaged, or epilepsy that had been aggravated to the point of causing a potentially brain damaging seizure, or any similar medical condition, this story would be much more prominent.

For completeness' sake here's <a href="http://www.johnkerry.com/2007/9/18/kerry-statement-on-florida-campus-incident" rel="nofollow">John Kerry's official statement</a> on the incident.

Heheh. Blackwater is definitely a bit too <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberpunk" rel="nofollow">cyberpunk</a> for my tastes--I enjoy the genre, but only when it's fiction. It's a far cry from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinkerton%27s" rel="nofollow">the Pinkerton Detective Agency</a>--well, maybe it's not, but the Pinkertons didn't help us invade foreign countries.

Maybe the lesson here is that if you don't have enough government-controlled military forces to pull off an operation and be able to take full responsibility for what goes on, that operation is a bad idea.

On the plus side, it now seems that the Iraqi government (such as it is) or the US occupation force is re-evaluating the role of all private security firms in Iraq, so that's progress. I'd provide a link to this, but suffice it to say I heard it on MSNBC, and the story seems to be changing every ten minutes of so anyway, so I'll probably be able to find something written tomorrow. The killed/injured counts aren't even the same now (they've gone up, naturally).

I have no problems with a corporation or a private citizen hiring a security company for protection. The government, on the other hand, should not outsource its military. It is, as you say, terrifying.

Wow.

Really all you need to do is start posting the Blackwater website all over the internet to absolutely scare the shit out of people. I mean, it's not like their entire site design isn't all "Cloak and Dagger organization trying to take away your freedom". If I didn't know better I'd say you were linking me to a site from some horrifying dystopic alternate reality site. Jeebus.

"Blackwater, providing you the lowest price Civil Protection. Good for stopping those citizens who won't just fall in line."

I'm a big proponent of privatization, but corporate military scares the absolute shit out of me.

Also, GET ONLINE

Indeed it did. It was one of the top five results on Google when I searched for the email address above. I was quite glad to find it, as I was starting to get a bit wigged out at the thought that I'd have to reinstall my entire WP setup or something equally drastic.

Thanks for registering! I hope you find other things on here interesting. :)

I've often heard the blogosphere referred to as an "echo chamber." The fact that my WordPress is somehow set up to trackback self-referential links surely proves this fact.

Mark,

Thanks for the comment, and for taking the time to help me get things up and running. Glad to hear you like the K2 usage. Aside from laying out widgets, I haven't really done that much to customize it yet. I hope to get a bit more creative with it later. I'm using one of the nightlies 'cause the standard release doesn't do three column layout, and I kept running into bugs with 0.9.5. Seems totally stable now.

I use Newsfire myself. Awesome application. Got it as part of the MacHeist bundle sale. ShareThis is indeed quite svelte, but I'm not as happy with Link Harvest, as it doesn't seem to parse titles from linked pages very well at all, and completely chokes on Wikimedia sites (which is where I do most of my linking). I don't suppose you know of any alternatives?

Do you use OpenID for anything? If so, you might consider voting on the extension proposal I linked to in my next entry.

I thought I would comment to let you know I've been checking out the blog since yesterday. I was in the Wordpress IRC channel last night. :)

Anyway, I like how well you have gotten K2 to work. Added this blog to my RSS reader (NewsFire). Thanks for talking about the different plugins you use, for I have downloaded a few (Share This and Old Post Alert from Alex) to use on my blog.
