Parody Movie Trailers

Over the last couple weeks, I’ve been finding more and more parody movie trailers on YouTube that I really like: cut up and or heavily edited slices of a movie (or TV show, or several movies/TV shows in combination) to create a theatre-style preview trailer that presents the movie as something entirely different from what it actually is. For instance, Mary Poppins recut as a horror movie. I thought it might be fun to share some of my favorites with ya’ll. I found some of these thanks to recommendations by John Wolbers.

I’m going to put the trailers behind a cut to save bandwidth and space.

  1. “Scary Poppins” horror-film trailer. This one honestly creeped me out the first time I saw it. Maybe because it was late at night and I was low on sleep. Then again, I just rewatched it, and I was once again a bit disturbed.

  2. Little Miss Sunshine horror film trailer. I adore this movie to little tiny bits. It’s probably one of my top ten favorites. I was quite frankly (pun intended) disturbed by just how easily footage from the film were massaged into looking like something Alfred Hitchcock might have made. That said, the editing is high quality and very well done.

  3. Titanic 2: Footage from almost every film Leonardo DiCaprio has ever been in is used to construct a hilarious trailer for a theoretical sequel to James Cameron’s Titanic. Hilarious as it is exciting. Another example of just brilliant editing. I actually want to see this movie in theatres. I’m not joking. At all.
